Online Services

***COVID-19 update: all services, including individual, group classes, and consultations, are provided online via Zoom videoconferencing. Insurance coverage for online services is the same as for in-office services. Contact us for more information.***

We provide both speech therapy and communication coaching services in-person at our Chicago office, or online via videoconferencing. This service is also known as teletherapy.

We are licensed to provide certified online speech therapy to clients located in Illinois, Michigan, and California.

We provide online communication coaching services in all 50 states, as well as internationally.

Online services may be combined with in-person services. Some clients prefer to start with a few in-person sessions, then continue with online sessions. Other clients alternate in-person and online due to busy family or travel schedules. We are happy to be flexible.

I'm not tech-savvy. Will I be able to benefit from teletherapy?

Yes!

We use Zoom because it is (in our opinion) the most accessible videoconferencing app, intuitive for even the most tech-averse of users. If using a desktop device, you don't even need to install anything.

It is our job as the clinicians to ensure that you are comfortable and secure with the technology setup before therapy starts. We will coach and guide you as much as necessary. In some cases, successful teletherapy may require the presence of a family member or caregiver for setup or possibly the duration of the session, which we will determine prior to starting therapy.

Technology is here to support therapy, not hinder it. We will guide you through the process of learning how to access the technology tools required, so that all of your energy and attention can be on the true purpose of speech therapy: improving communication skills.

Are online services right for me?

In general, research shows that online services are as effective as in-person services. Whether online services are right for a given individual depends on your personal preferences, location and schedule, and the communication area you are trying to target.

While most services are eligible for a virtual setting, some exceptions apply. For example, certain types of voice and articulation therapy require tactile cuing, which is not possible to do online and requires an in-person clinician. For clients who are only able to attend online sessions, we recommend discussing this with our intake clinician during the free consultation. If there is a concern that online sessions will not be sufficient to address your communication goals, we will do our best to assist with finding a local provider who can provide services in-person.

COVID-19 note: during shelter-in-place and pandemic social distancing precautions, we are committed to being as effective as possible over teletherapy, for all diagnoses and client profiles. This will take extra creativity and effort in some cases, but we will work with all available resources, technology, and individuals to ensure quality services.
